Obituary of Virgil N. Stockdale

~~Funeral services for Virgil N. Stockdale, 85, of Jeffersonville, IN, will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy in Jeffersonville, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 PM and on Thursday from 11-1 PM at the funeral home.  He passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Kindred Rehab in Sellersburg, IN.  

Virgil was born on June 24, 1932 in Madison, IN, to the late Robert and Esther Stockdale.  He worked for over 40 years as a pipefitter.  He worked mostly for Lorillard Tobacco Company and for National Tobacco Company before retirement.  Most recently, Virgil greeted customers at the Meijer in New Albany.  He was a member of First Christian Church in Jeffersonville and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.    

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gene Stockdale; a daughter, Joni Stockdale; and his loving wife, Judy Stockdale.

Virgil is survived by his four sons, Bill Stockdale; Mike Stockdale and his wife Kathy; John Stockdale; Tony Stockdale and his wife Linda; a brother, Gene Stockdale; four sisters, Inez Prewitt; Wilma Cox; Mary Rousch; Anna Mae Roseberry; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
