Georgia R. Caruthers, 77, of Jeffersonville, IN, passed away on January 25, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Gilt Edge Baptist Church, Jeffersonville, IN, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10 to 12 PM on Wednesday at the church. 

Georgia R. Caruthers, 77, saw her first sunrise in Paducah, KY on October 24, 1940, and her last sunset on January 25, 2018.  Born to the late Ray and Paralee Smithers, she made her home in Jeffersonville, IN.

A graduate of Jeffersonville High School, Georgia was a lifetime member of Gilt Edge Baptist Church.  Before retiring from Clark Memorial Hospital, she worked at the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant.  Known for her superior work ethic, contagious smile, and boisterous laugh, employees at the hospital still remember her to this day.  With her love of travel and music there is no wonder she earned the nickname Boogie. 

Georgia is survived by one loving brother, Larue Griggin (Earlene) of Richmond, IN; one daughter, Rhonda E. McGhee of Jeffersonville, IN; two sons, Robert O. Caruthers of Jeffersonville, IN, and Timothy L. Caruthers of Jeffersonville, IN. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Paralee Smithers; a son Keith Smithers; two sisters, Virginia Douglas and Edna Bailey; and two brothers, Jessie Mastin and Charles Griffin. 

Grandma-boogie, as she is so affectionately called, leaves behind 13 grandchildren, more than 20 great-grandchildren, countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.  She was deeply loved and will be missed forever more.
