Obituary of Richard "Ric" Edward Toney
Richard “Ric” Edward Toney, 64 of Asheville, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in Jeffersonville, IN. A memorial service for Ric will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, February 16, 2018 at Bill Head Funeral Home, 6101 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA.
Ric was born on July 14, 1953 in Atlanta, GA to Joe Ann Toney and the late Buren “Buck” Toney. Ric loved God, loved his family, music, laughter and sunshine. He was a devoted husband, beloved father, fun-loving grandfather, loyal son and loving brother. He was a graduate of Louisville Bible College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Sacred Literature. Ric was a lifetime learner and dedicated himself to learning the Word of God. His preaching career led him from Georgia to Kentucky and, most recently, to Oak Grove Christian Church in Asheville, North Carolina. He spent 42 years in ministry, sharing his passion and teaching others about the hope we have in Christ. Through many ups and downs, Ric never lost his faith in God, even in the midst of some of life’s most difficult challenges. He lived his life with humor and love along with the deepest compassion and selflessness of Christ. He will remain in our hearts forever as the perfect picture of unconditional love.
Along with his father, Buck Toney, Ric was preceded in death by his daughter, Megan Toney and his first wife, Norma Toney France.
Ric is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Melissa Toney; six children: Carmen Snider (Clint), Amanda Castro, Deric Toney, Erica Toney, Summer Toney, Mia Toney; a step-son: Bradley Ritter; his mother: Joe Ann Toney; a brother: Drew Toney (Shawn); two nieces: Shay and Sophie; and seven grandchildren: Ethan, Calli, Aidan, Lanna, Austin, Erin and Jasmine.
