Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
Shirley was born in Denver, Colorado in 1919 and died on August 7, 2018 in Indiana at the age of 98. Her parents were Nettie M. Taylor and Melvin F. Taylor. Shirley took several art classes while in college and majored in Education. She received an A.B. degree from Denver University in 1942.
Shirley met and married Newton H. Hatfield. They were married on the 5th day of September 1945 in Denver, Colorado. Newton had received an early graduation from Purdue University to serve with the Anny/Air Force. After they were married, and Newton was out of the service they moved to Southern Indiana, where Shirley taught for the Greater Clark County Schools and Newton also worked for the Greater Clark as an educator and director of Adult and Vocational Education. Shirley also received a M.S. degree from Catherine Spalding College. In addition, Shirley was a member of Wall Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her four children. Edward Hatfield and wife, Mary Jo, and David Hatfield and wife, Diana, June Hatfield and husband, Roland Koelsch, and Carol Dean and husband, E.P. (Skip) Dean: six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
