Obituary of Barbara Vissing Donahue

Barbara Vissing Donahue passed away on January 5, 2019 to be with her stillborn son, Brian, relatives and many friends. All usable organs were taken and the remains will be buried in Mary Queen of Heaven cemetery next to the family.

Barb was born to William R. and Frances Weber Vissing on March 12, 1943. Barb delayed her college education in 1963 when she wed Daniel F. Donahue. After the birth of their second child, she later returned to Indiana University Southeast for her Bachelor of Arts and completed a Master of Arts in testing and counseling psychology at Spaulding University.

She worked at Shelter House in Louisville before being tapped to serve as Judge Clementine Barthold's Chief Probation Officer for many years.

She was later hired as the Indiana Coordinator of The Center for Women and Families Office in New Albany, IN when the shelter for the Center was being built. Her long term goal was to move to move to Bellingham, WA to have their son living near his sister's family in Vancouver, B.C.

Barb is survived by Dan, her husband, a son Dan, Jr. and a daughter, Angela.  She has two grandchildren, Michael and Claire Lundin.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother. There will be no showing, per her request, and a private burial will be arranged through Scott Funeral Home.

Barbara's favorite charities were the ACLU, Doctors without Borders, the Interfaith Alliance and the Crusade for Children. A celebration of her life will be held on Barb's  birthday March 12th beginning at  5:00 pm  at the Carriage House located on the grounds of the Howard Steamboat Museum on Market Street in Jeffersonville.
