A funeral service for Russell Schelling, 88, of Jeffersonville, IN will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, from 4 PM – 8 PM and on Saturday from 10 AM – 11 AM, both at the funeral home. Russell graduated to Heaven peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2019. God is faithful and rewarding him in every way.
Russell was born on February 22, 1930 to the late Anna Katharine and Thomas Park Schelling. He had his Masters in Divinity and received his Honorary Doctorate from Indiana Baptist College at the age of 80. He was a beloved Pastor for over 50 years, his latest pastorate being at Maranatha Baptist Church for 36 years. For the past six years, he was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Madison, IN. Russell was also certified in NANC Biblical Counseling. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping with his loving family.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beautiful bride, Shirley Schelling; daughter, Carol Powers; and siblings, Gerald Schelling, Homer Schelling, Jim Schelling, and Helen Jane Hemperly.
Russell is survived by his loving children, Russell T. Schelling (LeAnn), Jonathan L. Schelling, and Philip S. Schelling (Debbie); grandchildren, John Schelling, Jeffrey Schelling, Rani Newman, Mysti Robertson, David Schelling, Daniel Schelling, Caitlin Swinehart, Natalie Schelling, Priscilla Lee, and Phylicia Schelling; ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and a host of other family members and friends.
