Obituary of Ralph Lee Coats

Ralph Lee Coats, 77, of Jeffersonville, IN, passed away on August 17, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN, with entombment to follow next to his son at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 PM and on Saturday after 9 AM at the funeral home. 

Ralph was born on July 6, 1942 in Borden, IN, and was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force.  After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, Ralph went to work as an Aircraft Mechanic and eventually an Inspector for the United Parcel Service.  In 2016 Ralph was awarded the Charles Taylor “Master Mechanic” Award from the Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation administration for recognition of 50 consecutive years of building and maintaining aircraft for UPS.

Ralph was a loving husband and father who loved to spend his time with his wife, children and grandchildren.  He was an avid tool collector, bird watcher and enjoyed traveling with Laurie.  He was a jovial man who brought light and happiness to everyone that had the pleasure to meet him. 

Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Justin Coats; parents, Louie and Iva Coats; and his four siblings, Johnny Coats, Louie Coats Jr, Naomi Gray and Martha Coats.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Laurie Coats; four step-children; two sisters, Geneva Skelton and Emily Martin; and numerous extended family.
