Obituary of James Girard Vorgang

James Girard Vorgang 97; Jeffersonville Visitation and a celebration of life for James Girard Vorgang, 97, of Jeffersonville, IN, will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 1-3 PM, with a service following at 3 PM, at The Villages at Historic Silvercrest, 1809 Old Vincennes Road, New Albany, IN. Scott Funeral Home and Crematory are handling the arrangements. He passed away on Tuesday at Clark Memorial Hospital. Girard was born April 14, 1916 to Mabel B. and Joseph M. Vorgang, Sr. in Palmyra, IN. He resided in Jeffersonville, IN. Girard began his career in the automobile business with his father at Vorgang Motor Sales in Jeffersonville. He ran the family business for many years and later sold real estate. In addition, he worked for the Department of Urban Renewal of Jeffersonville for twenty years and served on the zoning board until his retirement. He was an excellent mechanic who loved working on cars. Sunday drives, boating on the Ohio and traveling to Europe and Iceland were some of his greatest pleasures. Girard is survived by his loving wife of over 73 years, Ruth Susan; three daughters, Diane "DeeDee" Gagliardi and her husband Ron, Jane Ellen Dillion and her husband Duffy, and Carolyn Cundiff and her husband Joe; two sisters, Georgia Kovacic and Lila Belle McWilliams; a granddaughter, Melissa Lingo; four grandsons, Ben and David Harder, Jeff and Matt Cundiff; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel B. and Joseph M. Vorgang; a brother, Joseph M. Jr. "Bud"; and a great grandson, Larry Settles.
