Obituary of Robert Erwin McNeill

Rev. Robert E. McNeill, 93, formerly of Mooresville, NC, passed away at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany, IN on July 19, 2013. Mr. McNeill was born in New Castle, PA. He was a graduate of Muskingum College (Concord, OH) and Pittsburgh-Xenia Theological Seminary. He pastored two churches: First Baptist Church, Horseheads, NY from 1946-1954 and Randolph St. Baptist Church, Charleston, WV from 1954-1983. In his retirement years Mr. McNeill served as interim pastor in WV and PA and authored five books. He was an avid sports fan and hunter. In 1986, he harvested a Quebec-Labrador Caribou. It ranked #8 and Boone and Crockett record book. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Gladys Jeanne Schaefer McNeill; his parents, John A. and Myfanny Williams McNeill; and a brother, John E. McNeill. He is survived by his six children, Robert McNeill (Robin), Stokesdale, NC, David McNeill (Kathy), Reedsville, WV, Barbara Hitchcock (Jim), New Albany, IN, Bonnie McKinney (Ron), Dalton, GA, Douglas McNeill (Michele), Longboat Key, FL, and Dan McNeill (Darlene), Charleston, SC; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Scott Funeral Home of Jeffersonville, IN, and Heritage Funeral Home in Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to The Salvation Army or Gideon International.
