Obituary of William Beeson Scott

William Beeson Scott 90; Jeffersonville, IN Funeral services for William Beeson Scott, 90, of Jeffersonville, IN, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at First Christian Church, 3209 Middle Road, Jeffersonville, IN, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Tuesday and 2-8 PM on Wednesday at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN, and from 10-11 AM on Thursday at the church. He passed away on April 22, 2017. Bill was born in Jeffersonville, IN, on October 9, 1926 to the late William M. and Lois B. Scott. He graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1944 where he lettered in baseball, was elected Class President and named Mr. Jeff High. He then entered the United States Navy Air Force where he proudly served his country as an aviation radioman on a PBM5 Martin seaplane. After the Navy, he attended Purdue University from 1946-1950 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He then attended the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1951 and began working in the family business, Scott Funeral Home. Bill retired after 30 years as a Mechanical Engineer and proprietor of a consulting engineering firm handling heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, refrigeration and sanitary engineering. Along with his brother, he designed and built many municipal buildings and schools in Jeffersonville. He was also a retired Funeral Director and President of Scott Funeral Home. He faithfully served the families ofSouthern Indiana and was a Past President of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association. In August of 1950, he married Lois Jean Paugh and they had four children, Bill Jr., Lise, Jo Ann and Jeannie. He was an eternal optimist and a founding member of the Jeffersonville Evening Optimist Club in 1951. He brought in countless new members and raised money for the children of Jeffersonville through his involvement in the Optimist Club. He was named Optimist International Vice-President in 1978 and also President of the Optimist International Foundation. In 2015, the Jeffersonville Optimist Club building was renamed the William B. Scott Optimist Center in his honor. He was honored to serve on numerous boards and join the civic clubs that would have him, such as the Jeffersonville City Council, Jeffersonville American Legion, as well as being a past Master and 60 year member of the Utica Masonic Lodge. He was a longtime member, Sunday school teacher and Elder Emeritus at First Christian Church. His hobbies included square dancing with the Happy Hustlers, playing in the Harbor Lights band and his yearly fishing trips to Saskatchewan. In September of 1991, Bill married Patti Moore, and they were happily married for 25 years. Bill Scott was Jeffersonville and wanted nothing but its success. He believed the children of our community were its future and fully supported the Jeff Optimist Youth Foundation. Bill was also a proud recipient of the 2005 Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year Award. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean P. Scott; daughter, Jeannie M. Dooley; and sister, Lois Ann Kratz (Norman). He is survived by his loving wife, Patti M. Scott; children, Bill M. Scott Jr. (Joan), Lise K. Sageser (Glenn), Jo Ann King, Kristie Pruzin (Mike), Kelle Pope (Steve), Brenda Fitzgerald (Chris) and Brad Moore; brother, Richard Scott (Rose); son-in-law, Mike Dooley; German son, Horst Schlichtkrull; grandchildren, Billy (Lizzy), Aaron (Alanna), Lauren, Whitney (Chase), Bobby (Lydia), Stephanie (Chris), Samuel, Samantha (Dalton), Ben, Megan, Shelby, Alex, Kyla, Cory, Breah and Ty; great-grandchildren, June, Olive, William, Cora, Andrew, Morgan, Kendall, Grace, Evan, Grant, Hudson, Zach and Logan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
