Obituary of Darrell D. Kingery

A Celebration of Life for Darrell D. Kingery, 65, of Otisco, IN, will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Silver Creek High School.  Cremation has been chosen and Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville has been entrusted with his care.  He passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at University of Louisville Hospital.

Darrell was born on February 13, 1953 in Frankfort, IN, to Rita Thomas Kingery and the late Robert Franklin Kingery. As a young man, he was a record-setting athlete at Clinton Central High School and Wabash College.  While a sophomore in high school, he met the love of his life and lifelong partner, Sheila Smith Kingery.  They married after his freshman year at Wabash College and never looked back.  His first job after college was teaching and coaching sports at Benton Central High School in Indiana.  He then moved to Southern Indiana and began his career in 1984 at Clarksville High School where he coached cross country, track and field, basketball and football until his retirement in 2010.  After retirement, Darrell couldn’t stay away from coaching and began another stage in his career at Silver Creek High School, where he was currently coaching cross country and track and field.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who referred to him as Papaw. He found pleasure in the outdoors and was an avid gardener.  He could fix anything with baling twine! He was very involved with and enjoyed attending PAAVO camps during the summer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Charles and Olivana Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sheila Kingery; three children, Kellie Kummer, Adam Kingery (Kristina), Kyle Kingery (Stephanie); his mother, Rita Kingery; four siblings, Randy Kingery, Kevin Kingery (Terry), Larry Kingery, Lori North; fifteen grandchildren, Mia, David, Chloe, Elijah, Micah, Gideon, Caleb, Christian, Thomas, Sydnie, Adam Jr., Sophie, Quincey, Mackenzie, Noah; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Daniel Faulkner Memorial Fund.  Envelopes will be available at the Celebration of Life at Silver Creek High School, or at One Vision Federal Credit Union, 206 W. Lewis and Clark Pkwy, Clarksville, IN 47129.
